Every chip needs a good dip! Whip up a gluten-free version of the classic French Onion Chip Dip in under 5 minutes! This recipe is quick and easy!

If you need a good dip for your chips, this recipe is it! It reminds me of the dip my mom makes. I used to think it was the best chip dip! It's just a packet of Lipton Onion Soup mix and a tub of sour cream. It was so delicious! Sadly, I can't eat that anymore because that soup mix is not gluten-free.

While there are gluten-free chip dips on the market, navigating the store to find them can be a pain sometimes. Some brands are gluten-free while others are not! Besides if you've ever read the list of ingredients on those chip dips, bleh! There's a lot of junk in there! I've come up with my own homemade french onion chip dip recipe for those times when you don't want to run to the store, the store is sold out, or just because you want to control your own ingredients!

This French onion dip would be perfect to whip up for a cookout, Super Bowl party, or just for lunch with a turkey sandwich!

Oh, and if you're hosting a party, consider making my Italian Beef! This chip dip + that beef = rave reviews for you! Also check out these gluten-free cheese curds, so delish!

    Dried Spices and Sour Cream

All you need to make your own chip dip are a few dried spices and such from your pantry and a container of sour cream! We are not going the caramelized onion route here, we are going the quick and easy route! The results are honestly quite delicious and will rival those dips from the store.

Dried spices for gluten-free onion soup mix measured out on small plates. A bowl of sour cream on a teal napkin.
    • Dried Minced Onion: This is not the same as onion powder. They look like little flakes of onion, in fact, sometimes they are called onion flakes! They can also be called chopped onions. Find them in the spice aisle.
    • Onion powder: We need that too!
    • Dried parsley: For a hint of color!
    • Sugar: Just a touch
    • Kosher salt & black pepper
    • Sour Cream

These dried ingredients when you add them up, basically make a gluten-free onion soup mix. While I would not and have not tried using it to make actual soup, it sure makes a great dip!

    Stir it up!

In case you need a visual to see how to stir ingredients together... see below. ?

That's all there is to it! Take all the ingredients and stir 'em up! Refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes to let everything hydrate!

Then get to dipping those chips! This dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week for all your chip dipping needs! Just give it a stir before serving!

Looks so good! And is probably less expensive than the Lipton packets. Thanks!

Made this last night for a party and got rave reviews. I cut back slightly on the salt, about by half and I didn't miss it. I felt the fist batch I made was too salty.
