Why You Can Trust These Recipes
Holiday baking is one of my favorite traditions! When I transitioned to a gluten-free diet due to celiac disease, I discovered that most of my cherished recipes needed adjustments.
Simply swapping out regular flour for a gluten-free blend didn’t always cut it; cookies made that way are often dry, crumbly, or gritty.
Being a baker at heart, I didn't want just any gluten-free cookie, I wanted gluten-free holiday cookies with the same taste and texture I remembered, ones that everyone would enjoy, gluten-free or not.
That’s why I painstakingly tested and perfected these recipes until I was completely satisfied with the results. This collection features many of my own cookie recipes, along with a few from fellow bloggers who take the same pride in their recipes.

Gluten-Free Cookie Baking Tips
- Follow the recipe and use the recommended flour blend, as substituting can affect the final outcome of the cookies.
- Opt for a gluten-free flour blend that includes xanthan gum or guar gum to mimic the binding properties of wheat flour.
- Avoid using single grain flours or nut flours unless the recipe specifically calls for it. Almond flour, coconut flour, and rice flour, when used alone, are not suitable replacements for wheat flour.
- Choose a high-quality, super-fine blend, such as King Arthur Measure for Measure, Cup4Cup, or Bob's Red Mill 1:1 to avoid a gritty texture. I generally don’t recommend Pillsbury gluten-free flour due to its grittiness.
- Gluten-free cookies are often more delicate when warm. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few extra minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Since gluten-free cookie dough can be softer than regular dough, chill your dough before baking to help the cookies maintain their shape.
- Gluten-free cookies might need a little extra time in the oven.
Are Your Ingredients Gluten-Free?
If you're new to gluten-free baking, there is a lot to learn. Here are some informative articles about common baking ingredients.
Gluten-Free Cookie Baking FAQs
Store cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for no more than 3 days, otherwise they may taste stale. If you need longer storage, wrap tightly with plastic wrap and freeze the cookies. Thaw cookies the day you need them and they will taste as fresh as the day they were baked.
You will need a gluten-free flour blend suitable for baking. These blends often state cup for cup or 1:1 replacement for wheat flour on the bag. My preferred blends for cookies are King Arthur measure for measure, Bob's Red Mill 1:1 baking flour, and Cup4Cup multipurpose flour.
You will also need to get fresh bags of sugar and other baking supplies that may have come into contact with wheat flour.
Be sure to use clean utensils and pans if they have been used to bake anything with wheat flour.
Homemade buttercream frosting is naturally gluten-free. Many store bought canned frostings are labeled gluten-free, so look for that claim on the label. Betty Crocker sprinkles are often labeled gluten-free. You can read my post on gluten-free sprinkles for more suggestions.
